Professional Experience

Mira Rho, MD

Dr. Rho received her undergraduate degree from Yale University in molecular biophysics and biochemistry. She graduated with a medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and completed her internship and residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital in Primary care/Internal Medicine in 2005. Dr. Rho then completed a Nephrology fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine. She joined Nephrology and Hypertension Associates in 2007 and is a Clinical Instructor of Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine. She is board certified in Nephrology and Internal Medicine. She is currently an active member of the American Society of Nephrology, National Kidney Foundation, and American College of Physicians.

Marilyn E. Olsen, PA-C, MHS

A 1998 graduate of Quinnipiac University PA Program, Ms. Olsen received her Master's Degree in Health Science. She has been working at Nephrology & Hypertension Associates ever since and specializes in late stage chronic kidney disease care, post-transplant care and hemodialysis. Ms. Olsen is an adjunct professor for the Quinnipiac University PA Program and is actively involved in patient education as well as advanced training for other Physician Assistants interested in nephrology.

Sirisha Guthikonda, M.D.

Dr. Sirisha Guthikonda attended medical school at Guntur Medical College, NRT University of Health Sciences in Guntur, India. In 2009, she completed her residency at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey where she received multiple awards recognizing her as "Best Outgoing Resident of the Year" and "Best I.C.U. Resident of the Year." In 2012, she completed her nephrology fellowship at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York, New York. Dr. Guthikonda has been an Academic Hospitalist at St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury, CT before joining Nephrology & Hypertension Associates in 2015.

Dr Sina Raissi, M.D.

Dr. Sina Raissi attended medical school in Tehran University of medical Sciences, Iran. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Wayne State University and nephrology fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta. During fellowship, he was the recipient of National Kidney Foundation Research Grant Award, publishing on the relationship between metabolic acidosis and negative protein balance in chronic kidney disease. He joined Nephrology and Hypertension associates on September of 2001.

Dr. Raissi is and active member of American College of Physicians, American Society of Nephrology, National Kidney Foundation and American Society of Hypertension. He is currently a Clinical Instructor at Yale University School of Medicine.

Dr Raissi is currently involved, as a co-investigator, in a number of clinical studies in patients with end-stage renal disease. He is also an active member of Medicine Department in St. Mary's Hospital, Waterbury, Connecticut. His major areas of interest are new frontiers on management of hypertension, calcium and phosphorus metabolism, and glomerulonephritis.

David A. Roer, M.D., F.A.C.P.

Dr. David Roer's career began after graduation from medical school and completing training in nephrology and hypertension at Yale University School of Medicine in 1989.

Dr. Roer received board certification from ABIM in internal medicine and nephrology and is a fellow of the American College of Physicians. He is also board certified as a Specialist in Clinical Hypertension from the American Society of Hypertension.

Dr. Roer is currently an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine. His commitment to medical education began in 1989 as an attending faculty member at the Yale primary care residency training program and the St. Mary's Hospital internal medicine residency program. He was honored with the teacher of the year award by his residents six times.

During his tenure at St. Mary's Hospital, he has served as Chief of Staff and the Chair of the Medical Executive Committee. He is currently Chief of Nephrology, Director of Clinical Quality, Chairman of the Peer Review Oversight Committee, and Chairman of the Ethics Committee, to name a few.

Dr. Roer is the managing partner of Nephrology and Hypertension Associates, Medical Director of the two DaVita outpatient dialysis units in Waterbury and the inpatient acute dialysis units at St. Mary's and Waterbury Hospitals.

He is a principal investigator in a number of clinical studies and has been published in several medical journals since 1991.

His memberships in many professional organizations include the American Society of Nephrology, the International Society of Nephrology, the American Hypertension Association, the Renal Physicians Association, and the American Society of Hypertension, among others.

Dr. Roer has also been an esteemed member of the National Kidney Foundation of Connecticut's Board of Directors and has been instrumental to its mission for 15 years. As a volunteer, he has twice served as Chairman of the Medical Advisory Board and was a member of the Executive Committee for a total of four terms. He developed comprehensive prevention and service programs for more than 3,000 dialysis patients. He has facilitated legislative changes for CKD. In 2003, his testimony in support of the medical necessity of home dialysis resulted in continued Medicare coverage for those patients. Connecticut has the largest home dialysis population in the country.

David and his wife, Dr. Mary Lizabeth Aquavia, are Founding Members of the Ada DeBold Society, a group created to ensure the philanthropic future of the National Kidney Foundation.
